The Tron AIS-SART (Automatic Identification System Search And Rescue Transponder) is a self-contained radio device that sends location updates using a conventional Automatic Identification System (AIS) to indicate the position, static and safety information of a survival craft or distressed vessel.
The AIS-SART's physical dimensions and technological competence make it a one-of-a-kind and revolutionary device.
The AIS-SART is technically based on the following principles: the device is configured with a unique ID code from the manufacturer and gets its position through an integrated GPS antenna. This data is aggregated and delivered in the marine VHF band through the international AIS channels (AIS A and AIS B).
The Tron AIS-SART GMDSS search and rescue transmitter is "Wheel Marked" in accordance with European Council Directive 96/98/EC, as amended by Commission Directive 2011/75/EU (7th amendment).
Tron AIS-SART and Tron SART20 can both be used as "search and rescue locating devices" according to the IMO SOLAS Amendment in Resolution MSC.256(84), providing the ship owner the flexibility to pick either product as required by SOLAS Chapter III, Regulation 2.2.
