With a VHF Radio Telephone you can consult with the lock master, harbor master and traffic posts and you can easily connect with other ships via the VHF Radio Telephone. The use of the VHFRadio Telephone increases your safety, especially on waterways where professional and pleasure cruising eachother meet.
For pleasure craft with a length of more than 7 meters, a VHF radio is mandatory in some European countries. Also when you have a radar on board, a VHF Radio Telephone is mandatory.
The FM-4800A can exchange all available data such as position and AIS targets via NMEA-0183 and NMEA-2000 networks. The solid state construction is water-resistant according to IP-67. Optionally, an additional handset and speaker are available for operation from a second position, for example the steering position in the cockpit. ATIS and MMSI number are easy to program yourself. You can add a wired second station handset (HS-4800) and use it as an intercom between sites, add an external speaker (SP-4800) it also has a megaphone with listening function. The microphone is a cool shape an a lot of customers like how well machined and heavy it feels in your hands. in particular they like the nub on the back that slides into the retainer to hold the mic.what is of nice metal work. What they like about the radio is the robustness of the buttons and the wheels. They are big yo you donot need to search araound or umping into other dials and they push and click very firmly.
Also the size and function of the buttons one is smaller and is only for volume and squelch. Twist it right away and you are adjusting volume,. Press it in you are adjusting squelch. The right button is noticeable bigger and you can twist it to change or choose menu items and press it in to get to the main menu speaker volume is surprising when you are anchored you can never go higher than 4 without it being too loud. On the way there is often a problem for most radios, especially with loud engines or music, but not for the FM-4800. This one has volume left.
The menus in the FM-4800 are easy to use and logically arranged. There are plenty of options for the different settings around DSC calls, beeps, screen contrast and much more.
The scan behavior of the FM-4800 works very well. You can quickly choose what you want from the menu. Most of us have a preprogrammed list of memory channels for the area they are in. Nice is that the most used menu item that people click on every day.
You can turn the GPS, DSC and AIS on and off separately, which is very detailed. it is nice to have these options in the FM 4800. You can also use it as an intercom
The handset supports all functions and acts as a second station, Protection class IP67. Handset requires an extension cable (max 3 x 10m)
The antenna is a very important part of the VHF Radio Telephone. Yachts and motor boats often use a stainless steel antenna, which is stable and does not immediately break down when you bumpts to something under a bridge. Do you have a sailboat? Then a fiber antenna is the best choice. View our range of Antennas here.
