Nowadays,boats use the marine radio to let people know how they are going to maneuver.The use of a marine radio is required by law on board all motor vessels with the exception of small pleasure craft smaller than 20 m. When using a radar on board small pleasure craft, a marine radio is mandatory. Small vessels may only continue their journey on main waterways in poor visibility if they are equipped with a marine radio. The range of a marine radio at sea is approximately 30 miles. At low power on inland waterways, the range is considerably lower. An intercom and AIS are very important on board.
